This nuanced, compelling film offers a close-up portrait of a northern French village forced to host a garrison of Nazi soldiers.. Iffy scripting decisions can't thwart the romantic allure of this handsomely crafted, sincerely performed wartime weeper.. As doomed wartime romances go, the film doesn't offer anything particularly original. But with palpable tension and poignancy, Suite Francaise is fine filmmaking well worth watching..
